The aim of TEDx events is to share ideas with individuals, communities and organisations. Organised by Queen Margaret University, the theme of the event is "Our Transgenerational World" which will see an eclectic range of speakers and TED Talks to engage in a wide variety of topics which aims to challenge the audience and the TEDx community to think about our world, and our community, through a trans-generational lens. It is about how to live in, and contribute to, the community in a person-centred way, responding to a wide range of individual differences, ages and abilities, and about how to bridge the transitions across life’s stages.

Professor Brendan McCormack, Associate Director of the Centre for Person Centred Practice Research at Queen Margaret University, who will host the event, explained: “Our event should be interesting and thought provoking for a wide range of people – those in the healthcare professions as well as wider community who are involved with different generational groups. The transgenerational theme will let the audience look at how we live; how we respond to a wide range of individual differences, ages and abilities; and importantly, how we can bridge the transitions across different stages of life.”

Professor Fiona Coutts, Dean of the School of Health Sciences at QMU, said: “We have a fantastic range of inspiration al speakers for TEDxQMU 2017 who will challenge the audience with different ideas and topics. We want to promote the concept of dignity and how we can instill a sense of self-worth across the generations. The importance of personal and social interactions will feature highly, as will the support that can be reaped from relationships across generations – essentially developing opportunities for integration in communities."

The event will be held on Friday 21st April 2017 in the Halle Lecture Theatre at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
